Welcome to Muttering Fool. I’m Suzy Pietras-Smith, 41, journalist, photographer, wife, aunt, cancer survivor who loves words.
I started this site in 1999 on Geocities, moving to my own domain in 2000 and officially becoming an actual journal site.
I live in the town of Colonial Beach, Virginia with my husband of 18 years, Tony. We have no kids of our own, but have a baker’s dozen of niblings that we spoil rotten at any chance.
The past five years I have worked as a journalist for the local weekly paper with a focus on politics and local government. My work also covers all local activities.
I was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma, clear type, in 2008. One nephrectomy later I was a survivor.
As of August 2016, I was found to have either metastatic RCC or another form of cancer, biopsies will be done shortly to confirm. At least, that’s what the doctors told me. I fought them on it and it turns out, I have sarcoidosis.
I’m not done yet.
A short list of who I am:
