December 14, 2003 Yes, we have Saddam Hussein in custody. In fact, that's one of the first things I heard early this morning. I was sitting here listening to Christmas music on the seasonal music channel, when Mom woke up. She hadn't been in the living room but a few minutes, then she called back to me to turn the news on. "We've got him" was the first thing I heard. They went through the rest of the press conference, recounting how he had been found, I listened to the one channel as long as I could before I switched to another station. Same pictures, same words, on all of them. A few talking heads "This makes the whole war effort worth it." Click, different channel. I disagree and as most of the house was still asleep, I didn't want to holler at the television. Nor did I wish to discuss the war or anything to do with it with my family. As I seem to be the sole person, on either side of my family, who disagrees with the war in Iraq. I do not wish to discuss it with anyone here, it's not worth the arguments over it, as I've seen way too many people get into knock down, drag out fights over it. And really, that's all I want to say about that.
I watched the kids this afternoon while their parents went to darts. Kyrsie told me that her tummy hurt, and well, she sometimes plays that she hurts so I didn't take her seriously. I laid her and Tre down for naps and went to download my email. About 20 minutes later, I hear her crying, tell her to come to me, and she just cried. I thought maybe it was Tre and not her, so went to check. The poor kid wasn't lying, indeed her stomach did hurt and she proved it to us. I called her Mom and she was here immediately. Poor kid was sick all night long and into today. Kyrsie never ran a fever so we don't know exactly what was wrong, whether it was something she ate, or a bug that didn't cause a fever.
We headed to town this evening to eat dinner, see a movie, and do a little shopping. We had Mexican and I did my normal, eat a salad, part of an appetizer then 2 bites of my entree. I ended up bringing it home and have at least one meal of food left from it. Dinner was good, even with a couple
of loud kids in the restaurant and a waitress that kept forgetting to bring
us something to drink. We ate a leisurely meal, then got into a snowball
fight in the parking lot. Or our version of it. I stand leaning
on my cane, grabbing snow off a car and flinging it, while Tony ducks and
tosses snowballs at me. Eventually the cold got to us and we got
back into the van.
And then we went and saw Elf . Tony wasn't sure about it, as he's pretty much fed up with Will Farrell. It's not that Tony dislikes him, it's that he is every damn where and has been for a couple of years. We got to the theater early and sat in the parking lot and drank hot chocolate. We talked and giggled and just reconnected. As much time as we've spent apart this year, we needed the time together. About 10 minutes before the movie start we headed in, bought our tickets and popcorn. We got into the theater and settled in. We were the only ones in there. We've gone through this before, had the theater all to ourselves until the movie began and then ended up with a bunch of people in there. Not tonight, it was just us, so we could talk and joke and enjoy the movie on a great big screen. It rocked and I wished it would happen more often. After the movie, to Walmart for wrapping paper, cards, and the makings for Christmas cookies. Then a 40 minute wait in line and a 45 minute ride home. And now, we're here, I'm done. I know a boring entry, but this was my day. Suzy Smith |
