News, finally.
We have a surgery date December 1st at MCV in Richmond, VA. They are going to do the nephrectomy that morning. I will be in the hospital the day before for some preoperative stuff. Following the surgery, I will be in the ICU for at least a day, then several weeks in the hospital.

While part of me is relieved to be moving forward, I'm scared. The doctors have been completely upfront with me, there is a huge risks of complications, and my recovery will be horrendous. The risk of death is large and was impressed upon me multiple times, yet, without the surgery I will die anyway when the cancer spreads.

It's a hard choice but surgery is my best chance at longer survival. I am scared, I am researching as much as possible but, nothing can completely prepare me for what I am facing.

In fact the doctor, the junior surgeon, laid it all out "After the surgery, whether you live or die is up to you, you have to be strong, and get up, and move, no matter how much it hurts." Tough broad time it is. Mean tough bitch so I can get through this, and live.

Suzy, are the risks because of the weight and diabetes? Or are they risks that are normally inherent in this particular type of surgery? I KNOW you can do it. You are a tough broad and you have a wonderful husband and you will make it through.

Suzy, I'm also curious, what are the risks with the surgery? Why is there such a concern even after the kidney and tumor have been removed? I have no experience or information about anything lke this. I can't imagine how scared and worried you must be, but I also know what a strong woman. If anyone could whip this, I think you could. I love the family support you have and I know they will all get you through this and I'm glad you have them. Would you email me your home address??

I have the same questions as Sasha. Since you're doing a blog post a day for the month of November, perhaps you can do a small post each day and answer 1 question at a time in small posts. I know it is overwhelming for you and I will understand if you don't want to answer our questions. I will keep you in my thoughts. You WILL get through this!

Well, if it's all about being a tough broad, you certainly have that covered well enough. Go show 'em what you're made of!
